Afternoon with a Green Hooded Sweatshirt

As we walk through life we find ourselves consumed by objects and situations that directly affect us in our pursuit to a particular destination. We frequently disregard the mundane or over look the quiet and reserved components of our daily routines. These peripheral elements are threads woven into a larger domain, an existence paralleling our very own.

How would our realities alter if we were more attentive to our surroundings? Would we begin to unfold a greater truth? Understand the bigger picture? What if the secrets of the universe revealed themselves to us everyday? Perhaps in the form of one green hooded sweatshirt.

James is visiting from South Africa, Cape Town.

Likes about the city:

"It has an exciting big town feel to it. Cape Town is not a city just a pretend city"

Dislikes about the city:

Crazy people and sleety slippery roads that need to be cleaned.

Carolyn is a student at the University of Pennsylvania and has been living in Philadelphia for three years.

Likes about the city:

She enjoys the scenery around the Art Museum area and feels that the transportation system is run well.

Dislikes about the city:

The Phillies and the Eagles! Untenable communities or environments within the city.

Dori has been a resident of Philadelphia for twenty two years.

Likes about the city:

She is a rower and biker and frequents the Art Museum area. There is plenty of fresh air in the park.

Dislikes about the city:

Traffic and rude people

Dodge (Left) and Martha (Right) have lived in Philadelphia for two years. They are from Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Likes about the city:

Dodge- "I like Martha! The convenience of the city is great. Plus good things happen to us hear like running into you. (Marah DiBello)"

Martha- "I get to ride free on the buses and every once and a while get to gorge myself at one of many nice restaurants the city has to offer."

James Boulder has been a resident of Philadelphia since birth, sixty six years. He is from the Mount Airy area of the city.

Likes about the city:

He thinks that there is a tremendous effort in development within the city and loves the results.

Dislikes about the city:

Parking prices, including the violations.

Kevin (Left) is visiting the city for the day. He is from Southern New Jersey. Liz (Right) is a native of Philadelphia. She is from South Philadelphia and has been a resident of the city for twenty six years.

Likes about the city:

Kevin- "The people always bring a smile to my face"

Liz- "This is my home. I like the attitude. I like that we are tough"

Dislikes about the city:

Kevin- "The people"

Liz- "Sometimes we are too tough"

Mario DiPrimio is seventy two years old and has lived in Philadelphia his entire life.

Likes about the city:

He loves the city for walking and riding his bike.

Dislikes about the city:

The gangs that travel at night time.

George has been in Philadelphia for two years. He is a culinary arts student.

Likes about the city:

Everyone is friendly and there is a variety of great beers readily available.

Dislikes about the city:

The people who hand out pamphlets, they come on too strong. Homeless people in the city he feels are also very intense.

"I'm from D.C. and the museums are free there. It's a pain to pay for museums."

Daisy is visiting the city for a weekend. She is from Oregon but currently is residing in Staten Island.

Likes about the city:

"Transportation is easy and it's not as crowded as New York"

Dislikes about the city:

"Don't know yet. Well it's cold."

In order from top to bottom -Jose V. Fernandez III, Wilma Seif, Martin H. Fortes Jr., and Romeo D. Santos. This group of people are from the Phillipines and have arrived in the United States January 17, 2009. They have visited L.A., Las Vegas, Newark, New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia. Wilma is a resident of Philadelphia she is married to an American math teacher.

Likes about the city:

"We wanted to see the landmarks and of course we are a big fan of Sylvester Stallone. We were not lucky enough because we don't have much time to explore Philadelphia. But we are able to drive through the city and we like what we have seen in terms of structure and cleanliness. "

Jonathan has lived in Philadelphia for six months. He is from Pittsburg and before Philadelphia was a resident of Boston.

Likes about the city:

"The people are real and there is always something fun to do."

Dislikes about the city:

Rudeness, SEPTA, and crime.

Dean Roberts is a native of Philadelphia and has lived in the city for twenty eight years. He is a Graduate student at Drexel University studying anesthetics.

Likes about the city:

"I love the city. It's grimy and compact."

Dislikes about the city:

The high crime and budget crisis.
